Travelling Light is a theatre company and children’s charity that over the last 37 years has sparked the creative journey of more than one million children and young people in Barton Hill, Bristol and beyond. Their mission? To create outstanding theatre for and with young people that inspires their thinking, engages their emotions and fires their imaginations.
From their base in Barton Hill, Travelling Light creates award-winning theatre for young audiences which tours locally, nationally and sometimes internationally. They also offer opportunities for children, young people and families to take part in creative activities including youth theatre groups, holiday activities, community outreach, and creative learning projects in schools.

Do you share the belief that every child has the right to create, imagine and experience great stories? Would you like to bring your skills and experience to make a real difference to a Bristol-based charity and the young people they work with?
Trustees at Travelling Light
The board currently consists of 7 trustees with a range of backgrounds and experiences. With long-standing members coming to the end of their terms, Travelling Light are looking for new trustees who can support the company through the crucial next phase of its journey as it emerges from the Coronavirus pandemic and develops the next four-year business plan.
Firmly committed to inclusive governance, Travelling Light want your expertise and lived experience on the board for a diversity of thought that will help shape its decision making for the next 4 years.
Previous experience of Governance is not necessary and Travelling Light welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and experience who share their charitable aims and belief in children’s entitlement to creativity, imagination and great stories told through theatre. Though not essential, individuals with any of the following skills and experiences – whether through work, volunteering or lived experience – are warmly encouraged to apply:
- Community Development and/or Early Years/Primary or Secondary Education
- Finance/budget management
- Marketing and communication
- People management (HR)
- Experience of fundraising and philanthropy
