Across the charitable sector, currently only 8% of Trustees are People of Colour (PoC) of which only 2.5% are women of colour. So, with charitable boardrooms being less diverse than those in the commercial sector, BeOnBoard has launched #InspirisingYourBoardCareer.
On June 17th with our focus on PoC, women and LGBTQ+ communities, #InspiringYourBoardCareer will launch a summer series of webinars spotlighting and amplifying the achievements, motivations, and aspirations of this incredible group of every-day-change-makers.
“Being a trustee gave me a good environment to learn and practice senior level skills. I chaired a subcommittee, evaluated, and wrote strategy and policy documents, represented the organisation at conferences, and reviewed funding bids. This has allowed me to secure other executive and non-executive roles” – Kam Govind, Trustee of Vision North Somerset
As part of sharing their knowledge and experience we are pleased to announce the following Trustees:
- Ifeoma Fox, Bristol Women’s Voice, Member Board of Trustees
- Ele George, Bricks, Member Board of Trustees
- Kam Govind, Stepping Up, Faculty Member
At the same time #InspiringYourBoardCareer will host a series of café style chats with charitable organisations who are keen to use their live boardroom vacancies to embrace inclusive governance by diversifying their Boards. There will be opportunities to meet, chat and interact with participating organisations and learn more about their work, the current Trustee openings, and their commitment to ED&I.
Participating organisations include the Bristol Festival Network, Tree Aid, Gatehouse Green Learning Trust, BS3 Community Development and Age UK Bristol, with more organisations to be announced.
If you are an aspiring boardroom leader from an underrepresented group looking to secure a boardroom position, or to get top tips from experienced Trustees, join #InspiringYourBoardCareer on June 17th from 6-7.30pm.
